Since the creation of the first Assassin’s Creed game in 2007, Ubisoft has been putting out Assassin’s Creed titles every year. That is of course, until last year. After the disappointingly low sales of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, they’ve taken a year off the usual release cycle to really focus on the next one. So, what can we expect?
One thing that’s confirmed is that the game play has definitely taken a new turn. The game, as the name suggests, is about the origin of the Assassins. Unlike the usual characters like Ezio or Connor, Bayek, the game’s protagonist is not a skilled warrior. That’s where the new RPG elements of the game come in. There’s a progression system in which you level up doing certain things. The game also has a skill tree using which the player can develop their own playing style. You can be stealthy, manipulative or just go berserk and KILL EVERYONE.
Weapons have a certain depth. Each weapon handles differently so you have to kind of learn how to use the different ones. Also, crafting is more of a thing now. You need it to upgrade your weapons, including the hidden blade which you’ll need to kill the big baddies. Speaking of which, there are Boss battles against people as well as giant creatures.
A notable new feature is the eagle Bayek calls Senu, it may be a replacement for the usual eagle vision. It can fly ahead and scout the area. It seems sort of like the drones in Watch Dogs. Other animals can also be tamed and used in combat. Camels can also be ridden like horses.
The game is set in ancient Egypt, at the time of Cleopatra’s accession to the throne. It boasts of a map as big as the Caribbean.
Seeing that they’ve taken a whole year off for this game, the hype is pretty high. Let’s hope that the game delivers.
